When Mozz got on the Re-Issue train I really didn't like it. Largely because of the altered covers which didn't look too good and because I was already getting fed up with all the RSD hype but also because it was easy as I already had copies of those albums.
And then Your Arsenal was announced to be made publicly available again. That record as well as this one is a 90s classic of his that is a little harder to come by and demands pockets that are a bit deeper. I never felt like spending enough to get those so these pressings make sense to me. And they are even really good looking.
Viva Hate and Kill Uncle regularly pop up in stores and on flea markets everywhere so I couldn't see the point in those new treatments. Now I do though because it looks like he decided to do that for all his studio recordings of which quite a few, just like Your Arsenal and Vauxhall And I, are rather expensive.
Can't wait for Southpaw Grammar to drop.

I religiously bought every one of his releases until he decided to join in the RSD madness and put out stupid picture vinyl for too much money. But a new Morrissey LP is still a new Morrissey LP so I had to buy it.
I love the title, the layout is really beautiful and my copy comes on good old black wax. 3 hits out of 4 so far. So let's get to the 4th. The most important aspect of the new Album. The songs. I don't know what happened but at first I was very disappointed in the whole record. Of course I gave it another try. Listening more closely to each of the songs. Still. Almost all of the tracks don't hit home. Only "Kiss me a lot" is a truly good song. The rest is pretty mediocre. Not totally bad just nothing special. Not a record that will get of the shelf again any time soon. Let's pray for a 7" release of "Kiss me a lot". Then I wouldn't have to break out these 24 inches ever again. The truth hurts. I know.

Morrissey's arsenal

Recently every jackass is on about how vinyl is back. Back from where? Did it go anywhere? As far as I can remember it's always been here. Maybe your insignificant little Indie sensation only put out their idea of music on this transitional medium called the Compact Disc. And certainly major labels didn't clog all channels with the millionth repress of records that are filling bins in record stores already. But almost every album, ep or single I like was pressed onto vinyl.

Unfortunately though during the nineties some releases were only made available on vinyl in relatively small numbers. Trying to get those now is not that easy and draws a little more blood than records by the same artist from let's say the 80s when albums were pressed in large numbers and in many different countries at the same time. One of those rather pricey items got an upgrade lately:

After originally being issued in a few countries in 1992 the album has already been repressed on vinyl once in 2002 but this time around they perfected the release. If OG wouldn't always beat any and all descendents the fine gatefold packaging with the great bandphoto on the inside would transcend this version to be the only one you'd actually need if you're seriously collecting Morrissey but are not into owning multiple copies.

I do collect Morrissey vinyl but not seriously so I'm very satisfied owning this beaut.

Strangely I still didn't see a 'Vauxhall and I' repress in any of the stores I've been to since its release. Which makes me a little nervous about getting one. Though not enough yet to order online and add postage to the damage. Let's see how long it takes until I'm there but hopefully I find a copy before it gets to that.
