More of the Boys from the blackstuff

Man did I not pay attention to this band in the beginning. Unfortunately that is! But ever since I saw them live at Ninja Fest in I think 2007, or was it 2008? I don't remember. And who cares? They are awesome no matter when they blew me away for the first time. I can't get enough of the DOWN AND OUTS. Sadly I never saw them live again but gladly managed to get my hands on a vinyl copy of "boys from the blackstuff" and their split 7" with Death Is Not Glamorous. For some reason their records are pretty hard to track down although I still have some copies of "friday nights, monday mornings" for sale that nobody seems to want. Escapes me! What you ask? Both! That nobody wants to buy those records from me and that at the same time I can't find their earlier output. Well.... one reason for that might be that I didn't even know about their first 7" "forever punk" from 2006. Just like I didn't know about the 2007 follow up 7" called "Minneapolis" and the split 7" w/ Offshore Radio and the 4 way split LP from 2005. Only today I had the pleasure to read about those releases on the bands facebook page when they shared some news. But now that I know about those platters I will definitely be on look out for them. The fact that today I found the split 7" that was still missing in my collection should underline that statement ;) I love it. I read about something I want to have and think I'll probably have a hard time finding it but then only a few hours later I can cross it off my list again. Let's cross our fingers the other ones will be about as easy to come by.
But hey... you might say. What about those news you mentioned? Well... they have a bandcamp. Is that news? I don't know. Maybe it's new maybe not but what's new for sure is that they are putting all the old stuff on there for everyone to download. For free? Not really but it's hella cheap. So check that out. There's info on pressings and recordings and other tidbits that sweetened the day of an old hardcore kid like me.
Now you might call that pretty lame news because you already downloaded all that stuff illegally from the web or already have all those records. Then here's something for you. Of course I saved the best part for last. The new album is finished!!! To me that's like the cherry on top of the cream on a cupcake. Good news on an already good day. Can't wait to hear the tunes and see that vinyl spin on my record player. I'm on holidays so I'll leave it at that and call it a day. Nighty night and sleep tight world.

SSD... RSD Glue

Yes it's a while back already but some of you might not have seen the pictures and videos of the SNIFFING GLUE show at one of the best Recordstores aka Hitsville Records in Düsseldorf, Germany.
In celebration of Record Store Day Hitsville and Search For Fame Records put out a SNIFFING GLUE LP that features 13 cover songs and is ltd. to 222 copies with hand silkscreened covers on very heavy cardboard. Deluxe shit as always.

Hit the links to see what you missed or to reminisce.

The Future is now

I'm having a bit of time on my hands lately to enjoy life aka nerding around on the internet. So I found the following posts on a blog that never ceases to amaze me: designlaunches.com. If any of the titles and attached photos of their posts catches your interest hit the pic to get to the source of and learn more about it. Here we go starting things of with a post that doesn't really fit the title I gave my post but is still something I like and in a way minimalistic living is quite futuristic. Even if it's only a holiday retreat and not really something you would want to live in or do you?

Another new Tranzmitors record

Most of you are probably in the know about the Transmitorz new 7" on React! Records which is available right here.

But do you also know that these fellows already have another one in the pipeline?

While anticipating their new release on React! I was pretty much caught off guard by these news and therefore even the more excited.

La-Ti-Da Records who already put out one of their earlier singles (Some Girls b/w Dancing in the frontrow) are taking care of the latest recordings these stylesterz churned out. The regular black vinyl out of 350  is available for pre-order in the sidebar on this site here and a ltd. to 150 copies color vinyl edition is available in a bundle that pairs it with 5 more La-Ti-Da 7"es

Still somewhat alone in a crowd

In my book I already marked them as disbanded. Can you blame me? They put out a very good "s/t" 7" in 2005 and managed to top that with the 2006 release of their "Ghost stories" LP. Then I was able to see them promote that record live in europe and have never heard from them again ever since. But on April 24th Metal Sucks uploaded the new WHEN TIGERS FIGHT record called "Death songs" for your streaming pleasure.

If you know anything about the 90s US HC scene you should know that you can never go wrong with a band that Ken Olden is a part of. Dude hasn't been in a bad band. Including Damnation AD which is a huge reference here. Also Mike McTernan's voice is still as intense on the recently released When Tigers Fight LP as it was on Damnation AD's masterpiece "No more dreams of happy endings". Unfortunately though it seems Ken has left the band which I think you can hear in the new songs. They certainly are different to those written 6 years ago but maybe that's just a natural evolution of their sound. Now I know it's vital for a band to evolve in order to stay interesting but I have to admit not being too fond of the newly embedded melodic elements. But albeit this and the cover being rather hideous the band still delivers a good full-length that's well worth a listen. And who knows maybe this is just another case of a record underlining my statement that music can never sound any better on any medium than on a vinyl record.

In conclusion my advice would be for all you old-timers who don't know the band yet to get acquainted with their older material first and the youngsters might want to start with the new LP as it has a few more modern elements.

You can order different versions of both LP's from Closed Casket Activities.

Still one of the best Bands

Ringworm are among the innovators of what came to be known as Punk Metal and after all these years are still on top of the game. The clip is not particularly good yet the music makes all the trendy fakes bow their heads in shame. Wake up to the REAL DEAL!!!!!!! 'nuff said!!

Flashback in black & white

WHITE LUNG are an altogether decent band. I do have their first three 7"es but somehow I lost interest after "Atlanta". I didn't think it was bad. It just felt like there was something missing. Probably this will still be the conclusion I'd come to if I'd listen to their more recent output but after watching the video premiere of "Take the mirror" on the Filter Magazine website I have my doubts. Maybe it is because that clip reminds me of Sonic Youth videos from the 90s. Or maybe it's because of the cover of their upcoming LP "Sorry" on Deranged Records.  The Smiths taking on a Joy Division vibe while going surrealistic. Awesome. Sonic Youth, The Smiths, Joy Division, Surrealism. How can you go wrong with quotes like that? Not at all! At least not in this artistic realm. I like it when sound and vision become a unit and the "Take the mirror" video is an example par excellence.

One - Two - Get Lewd

Check out the info on the upcoming LEWD ACTS euro-tour I stole from Deathwish inc.:

Though it's been rumored for awhile now it seems that Lewd Acts have been officially reactivated. After releasing the brilliant "Black Eyed Blues" album in 2009, the band abruptly went on hiatus while on tour in 2010. Since then, Lewd Acts members have been active in bands Loma Prieta, Griever, and more.

Here are the latest dates, more coming soon:

08/03: Hasselt, Belgium @ Muziekodroom
08/05: Port, UK @ Hevy Festival
08/08: Vienna, Austria @ Venster
08/11: Berlin, Germany @ K19

Maybe we get a little more of the below, haha. Well, I saw them 2 times on their break-up tour through europe in 2010  and was pretty impressed by the energy they put into their live-set. The music is intense as it is but combined with their on stage ferocity it definitely is something you don't wanna miss.
Get into it!!

Black Widow

Is the title of the new BURNING LOVE 2 song 7" out on High Anxiety Records. More info here.
Available at your favorite vinyl dealer. Stream the b-side song on Brooklyn Vegan.

The song "Hateful comforts" form their upcoming LP "Rotten thing to say" is available for your listening pleasure on Alternative Press.
Stay on the lookout for its release on Southern Lord Records and meanwhile go see them live if you can. For now I only know about these North American dates but I think I heard something about a euro tour.

Hang 'em if they're high in europe

Chicago Vegan Straight Edge band Noose are starting their euro tour soon. If you don't already know their two 7"es on React! Records you should definitely check out their tunes and the blog. Total early Boston rager. Fast, aggressive and uncompromising. What more could you ask for?
If you can you should go see them. I would so like to see them play but unfortunately they tour a circle with a radius of about 500km around my hometown. Major Bummer!!!

Just in time for their tour the new 7" "Depraved indifference" on Refuse Records will be ready but you can already pre-order from refuserecords@gmail.com and all you collector nerds can look forward to a special tour edition of their "The war of all against all" 7"on React! next to the special tour edition of the new platter.

Here you can read what Refuse Records had to say about the tour and 7" on another blog

Support that shit! It's crucial and you know it!!

Give + No Tolerance Tour

You must be living under a rock if you don't already know GIVE. It already took me a while to check them out but I'm glad that I did. I'm not the biggest fan of Revolution Summer Era DC Hardcore but this band really does a great Job incorporating that style into their own sound. So thank you Trapdoor-Tourz for working on their euro-tour. At the moment I can't find any official info on confirmed dates but word on the street is that they will be playing Bremen, Germany on Sept. 22nd and Münster, Germany on Sept. 23rd. Rumor also has it that they will bring No Tolerance with them. They have a 7" out on Youngblood Records that's heavily influenced by early Boston Hardcore. And I also hear some Confront in there. You can't go wrong with that.
Keep your eyes peeled

A light in the dark

During the month of April I was very busy as you might already know which is why I unfortunately missed Lifetime on their short trip. Well I could have gone to their "secret" show but that was also the day of the only Unbroken show I was able to attend so I decided to watch them. Damn fucking work. I would have really liked to see Unbroken on another date of their tour and be able to see Lifetime as well. But hey, I can still break out those pictures of their showI saw in the 90's. If you're lucky I'll get around to scan some of those pics later this year after I finished the Unbroken Discography project I put on my list of things to do rather sooner than later.

If you're kinda sympathetic with me not seeing Lifetime you might want to cross your fingers that I'll be able to attend as many shows as possible of the upcoming OUTSPOKEN TOUR this coming winter. And hopefully there will be one or the other small club show. I don't like those big crowds. Attracts way to many annoying people. So yeah the wave of 90s reunions is in full swing and so far each of the bands was worth a trip. Let's hope Outspoken's performance can match the ones of Unbroken and Lifetime. From what I know about the shows they already played in the US I'm pretty positive that they will deliver a time we'll remember ;)
