Fresh in 2012

While I was on holidays with my wife I missed out on the incredible line-up of Hangin' Tough, Rise And Fall and AYS. So much even that I also didn't blog about it. But who cares if I did. The show was sold out in no time anyway. Right now JoeZilla and I are working on bringing that very same line-up to the legendary AK 47 in the always beautiful city of Düsseldorf but that's a bit besides the point I'm trying toget across.

HANGIN' TOUGH had some new Shirts for sale at aforementioned show. As my brain is a big lump of (vegan) cheese I don't remember if they all sold out right that night or just a little later. All I remember is that they had to make a rerun of the new designs. Luckily I'm not only a connected but a made guy when it comes to that band so Jaybeez has one of each design neatly folded away for me to pick up when I'm back from this awfully long work-trip. Too bad for you this one is already sold out again:

But maybe the yellow haze is more your color anway. That one's still available

As is this new take of theirs on a classic print

Also this older shirt is still for sale

BE QUICK !!!

Vegan dreams come true again

Less Talk More Cake aka the sugarfeud is a comin' again.

Mark your calenders Sunday Juli 15th 3:30 pm at Atelier 68 in Cologne.

Unfortunately I won't be able to make it so two of you can have my share ;)

MOB STYLE

I don't know if I've ever been that siked on a show. Ok. I think I was but there were not many. Though I'd say the recent reunion craze is getting on my nerves a bit this one I'm looking forward to and it better be a good one. This Band released one 7" in 1982. Yes that's right. 30 fucking years ago. And it is one of the best Hardcore singles that were ever released. It's right up there with Black Flag's nervous breakdown, Negative Approach's 1st 7", the Middle Class 7", the Abused 7".... I think you catch my drift.

Now that I probably got you interested (if you have any taste in hardcore at all you should be drooling like me right now) here's what I'm on about:

URBAN fucking WASTE will be playing the annual R'R-Fest in Venlo, Netherlands on Sept. 22nd together with Man Lifting Banner, Citizens Patrol and a whole slew of others. Although the event is not yet mentioned on the Club's site. But that shouldn't be worrying anybody. It's not the first edition ofvthe Fest. Rather the fifth and apparently last one which in my humble opinion is a damn shame.

In 2010 URBAN WASTE released the Recycled LP which has old songs that were never recorded (or at least never released before) and some new tunes. While this is a good record it somehow lacks the punch of their 7" I must say so let's keep our fingers crossed for the live event. As of now I don't have any info on a pre-sale but there's most likely gonna be one that you should use because last years edition was sold out early in the day. Also you might want to bring your survival / first aid gear since I'll be moshin' and skankin' and struttin' like there's no tomorrow ;) (I'm not talking Take Offense here although that's an awesome band too)

Sharing and caring

Take It Back! Records wants to share a compilation with me and you. Of course it's a Label sampler. And it features the likes of State Of Mind, Unveil, Animal Instinct and amongst others a Band by the name of El Camino Car Crash which makes me wonder if they sound anything like Swing Kids?

Thieves say yo!

Copy / Paste doesn't only work for fanzines. So here is another one I plucked from the tree that's hung with sweet fruits and goes by the name of SWNK.

If only I could be bothered to order a fanzine. This one sure sounds interesting and if I would see it at a show I'd pick up a copy for sure. Yet I can't get myself to order it. Maybe it's because I'm already losing too much money on postage for all those records I do order all the time. But maybe you are different. Don't let it die. Fanzines are crucial!

Nab is back with a new issue of his Just Say Yo! (JSY!) fanzine. As you might have read in the short Q&A I did with him recently, in our ‘Meet The SWNK Crew’ series, his fanzine was one of the reasons I asked him to join SWNK. So far I loved every issue he did, and I’m not expecting issue #5 to be any different.

What do I look for in a good zine? I love zines that make you think, make you want to react. JSY! (after the introduction pages) starts with some columns, and the first column already made me want to look for a reply button. Which is kinda silly for a zine I know, but I’m just trying to say I wanted to react to the piece (a comparison between opensource (software) and the hardcore scene) right away. While the author had some good points I didn’t agree with everything. And I wanted to tell him/her (I’m not sure if Eloriah is a guy or a girl’s name). Nab also writes a column, partly about death. Which is something that scares me to death (uhuh…). He talks about the fear of losing people close to you, which is something we can all relate to. So the ‘makes you think / makes you react’ box is ticked. What’s next?

I also like to read about bands that are pretty much unknown to me. If it makes me want to check out that band, even better. Any of this in Just Say Yo! #5? Of course. Silent Majority for instance. While I’ve seen the name mentioned here and there, I never checked them out yet. The article in this zine finally made me listen to their stuff, and of course they’re great. There’s also an article in there about the bands that Mike Kirsch (now Sarah Kirsch) played in. I love Fuel, so I’m going to check out those other bands too. Almost like checking out thanks lists to find out about new bands right? Either way, another box ticked.

I love zines that give you the feeling you did get to know the bands / persons a bit better after finishing it. The interviews are in-depth enough and not too long to get boring. So that’s another check. It’s always a big plus if a zine is fun to read. Stuff like the Raindance tour promotion video (using the scene of “Der Untergang” / “The Downfall”), the interview with his friends in Unveil, the interview with Mitch Clem (Nothing Nice To Say comic) etc. JSY! also scores in the lay-out department. Computerized cut & paste style (in a good way) and easy to read.

There are also reviews in there, but I usually don’t give a shit about those (he said while typing up this review… – Mine suck too). And these are no exception. Not that they are bad, I just don’t care about them. Sorry Nab. I had to include something negative too right? Otherwise people would think you bought me off. For the next zine review I would prefer a black sportscar though, red’s not really my style.

All in all, I think Nab, got pretty much all bases covered in this zine. So be a good boy/girl and pick up your own copy. When’s issue #6 coming out?

Just Say Yo! fanzine issue #5 is a 68 page A4 sized zine featuring interviews with Rearranged, Unveil, Raindance, Birds In Row, Mitch Clem. A U.S. tour report with Remission. A Silent Majority retrospective, a Mike Hartsfield VS Mike Kirsch discography article and a NY punk mixtape (Worms In The Big Apple).

Quick fix - sick steal

Shamelessly stolen from SWNK. If you follow that preceding link you will be able to check out a Sick Fix song if you don't know what you're dealing with here. I for one am not too siked about the Band but would most definitely go check them out if I had the time to. So if you can go see them. Seems like quite a few droogs are into that Band. Might make for a god show.

Washington DC’s straightedge powerhouse SICK FIX have just wrapped up their debut LP ‘Vexed’ which is set to be released this upcoming July on A389 Recordings.

Recorded by Kevin Bernsten at Developing Nations (Baltimore, MD), ‘Vexed’ comes loaded with twelve tracks of fast and crushing, pissed off female fronted hardcore.

Formed in 2006, SICK FIX released a self titled 7″ (Third Party Records) which was followed by a self released tour demo in 2009. Sharing members with other active regional bands (such as MAGRUDERGRIND, LOTUS FUCKER, NATURAL LAW and COKE BUST) may have hindered SICK FIX from being overly active in the past. However, the band will be making their debut overseas appearance this summer joining COKE BUST on select European tour dates!
