Hardskin RULE, well they are very good.

Hailing from South London, Gipsy Hill in fact and featuring Johnny Takeaway, Fat Bob and Nosher (later replaced by Nipper) they appeared on the 'Oi'scene in London in the mid 90's with the debut album Hard Skins and Hard Cunts (on Helen Of Oi records). Followed by 'Same Meat Different Gravy' on Household Name Records.

They first featured on Damaged Goods on the Double 7" single The New Wave Of The Close Shave (Damgood 111) with 6 other bands including OiZONE OiASIS andUNION JOCK. This is long since sold out.

We released the great live album of the Hard Skin experience Live And Loud And Skinhead (Damgood 167). It's worth buying for the banter between the tracks alone.

They are still going, recent gigs include a tour of Japan and their now regular Christmas shows filling the gap left by Gary Glitter!

Seriously how good are "Boys from the blackstuff" and "Friday Nights Monday Mornings"!
When visiting London for Ninja Fest in 2007 with my then girlfriend now wife to meet up with friends from Austria and catch one more show of the almighty Cold World I was floored by the set of a UK band I think I might have heard the name of prior to said event only because they were on Dead & Gone Records but never paid much attention to. Such a great memory and next to the Cold World set it was the best performance from that fest. Ever since I'm having my eyes on the Down & Outs but nothing much is happening. I would really like to see them play live again but there shows in the UK are rare from what I know and I have never heard of the band setting foot on the european mainland. I know there have been offers but they were declined. Such a shame.
But there might be some light at the end of the tunnel. Today I got aware of them posting about a new album they are recording that might or might not be fully recorded by the end of the month. Go follow their profile on a popular social media community so you don't sleep on it. If you're too lazy I'll sure enough try to get the news out to you asap once they come to my attention.
In case you have never heard any of their material check it out here. They list Cock Sparrer and Leatherface among their influences. That alone should make you love them.

Jeff Nelson - Pedestrian Press - Dischord Shirts

I'm pretty sure almost everybody already knows about Jeff Nelson selling Dischord Shirts through his Pedesttrian Press website. But there are friends of mine who probably do not know and maybe you heard about it but need another reminder to get on it. Here are infos from different sources:

"Dischord co-owner Jeff Nelson has launched a new website for his printing company, Pedestrian Press, and is selling the first printing of original Dischord shirts in 18 years (and first new designs in 30 years!). These shirts are the only official, authorized Dischord shirts.
Jeff designed many of the early Dischord album covers and is also an accomplished screen printer. His "Meese is a Pig" posters are legendary.

"Over the years, ebay has been flooded with Dischord Records tshirt bootlegs. Very few originals ever pop up. I’m not kidding, go check for yourself. Most of those tshirts are not OG. Not even close. But a lot of that is going to change courtesy of an email I just read from Jeff Nelson. You may recall him selling a few “trifles on ebay a while back. Minds were blown, and you can expect a few tees going forward. But here’s the email, read for yourself.

Hello, everyone!
Jeff Nelson here. In past I have had many requests from people for Dischord t-shirts, and I wanted to let you know that after YEARS of talking about it, I finally did something about it. I printed 3 new Dischord Records t-shirts and re-printed the original shirt. Also got some Egg Hunt and Inner Ear Studios t-shirts printed. The whole process took months and months. After designing the shirts, I got a ridiculous number of test shirts done, to test all sorts of ink and shirt color combinations. I chose the best color combinations to produce in quantity (and I will be selling the other test shirts on eBay at some point). It took two weeks to put together the actual order, and I have no one to blame but myself for offering so many choices and making it so complicated – there are 198 different combinations of shirt design, ink color changes, shirt type (t-shirt/long-sleeve shirt, crewneck sweatshirt, hooded sweatshirt), and size!
After overseeing the printing of the shirts, I spent a good week sorting, folding, bagging and labeling the shirts and putting them in boxes. Then I spent a week building shelves to hold them all – 12 feet wide by 16 feet tall! Definitely the tallest shelves I’ve ever built. Finally, making good use of the ridiculously tall ceiling in the 3rd floor ballroom.
Of course the most obvious place to sell the shirts would be from Dischord, but as you may, my partner Ian is not a fan of merchandising (very different from me – ever since I was a kid I’ve loved companies and packaging and logos and advertising and promotion). So, I’m selling the shirts through my company Pedestrian Press, which I founded in 1988 to handle the avalanche of orders I was getting for the “Meese is a Pig” t-shirt (an interesting side note – I have started working with a filmmaker from Washington, DC who is putting together a documentary about the whole “Meese is a Pig” poster campaign. Being interviewed for hours on end awakened memories of how fun it was, trying to elude the authorities in slapping up huge posters needling attorney general Edwin Meese, and also of just how horrible the Reagan administration was).
After choosing some storefront software that even a luddite such as myself can use, I spent several weeks spent updating the Pedestrian Press website, and now I can properly proffer all the shirts (and 1 book) I have for sale. If you are interested in taking a look, here’s the website address:

. LIFE IS BUSY .

The beginning of last month saw a lot of posts on my behalf but I couldn't keep up with it. Now that's no big surprise. Neither did I think I could nor did I want to. It was the coincidence of having worked a lot during june/ july and not being able to work due to health issues that had me stay at home in front of the computer. Ever since I'm doing better again I try to actually enjoy life outside of these walls. Hanging out with friends visiting shows or if there's really no way around it I actually also have to work. Which doesn't leave me with a lot of time to post on here. So if you come across this blog of drivel during the beginning of August and are wondering why the flood of posts has ebbed already.... now you know. I have no schedule whenever I see something interesting I'll keep that in mind for when I have the time to make a somewhat decent post about it. For today I have two things up my sleeve. Let's see if I can manage to get them out before I have to go to work.

The B-Side has yet another brilliant cover song or rather her own interpretation of the classic 'Baby it's you'. Release Date is Sept. 12th but you can already pre-order it from Domino Records. The HANGIN' TOUGH crew are done recording. Word on the street is the songs are hard and if you're not Straight Edge you will probably not like it. Maybe even if you're Straight Edge. Ha!
