Is this your kinda Clan?

I'm not much of a hiphop/ rap fan. I do have one or the other record but generally speaking I'm quite thrown off with the the way that genre presents itself to. That whole blin-bling and chicks thing is so annoying. Now I'm sure there are artists who deal with better topics but the mainstream shit is making me crazy and the music doesn't thrill me enough to go hunt for something interesting.

That said I do like some of the Wu-Tang stuff. Somehow they manage to catch my attention again and again. Just like in the past few days I read about 2 endeavors of different Clan members that I feel the need to share with you:

First of is RZA. He directs a martial arts (what else?) movie that is going to be presented by Quentin Tarantino and stars Russel Crow and Lucy Liu. If the whole film is anything like the trailer, as opposed to the trailer featuring its best moments and the rest being crap, It will be one of the best Action movies ever. What I can tell from the trailer it's so over the top (no pun intended) people at the movies will probably be screaming and laughing so hard you can hear it in the streets. It seems to be balancing real martial arts, exaggeration and wit in a way only a few others do. Just the right combination for me. Check out the trailer and a press statement to be found in the original post on DM.

Next up and closing things out is GZA with something not that far from the Clan's usual field of expertise. Well musicwise that is. He is about to release a new record which is nothing to out of the ordinary but it's a concept album with a rather atypical subject I don't think anyone ever tackled that way. He "has been sitting down with top physicists and cosmologists at MIT, Cornell University and elsewhere over the past few months for primers on the universe. Now, he's turning the lessons into lyrics." In the post on the WTFHYD? Blog that brought this to my attention and has a tad more info it also reads "GZA is teaming up with Marco Vitali, a composer, producer and Juilliard-trained violinist, on the score. They're aiming for a cosmic atmosphere." Now that I want to hear.
