ABFUKK ALTER

I seriously don't know why I didn't post this earlier. Abfukk is one of the best german bands ever. They are around for quite a while already so I probably don't need to tell you that it's mostly the same guys who also played in The Italian Stallian. Which they put to a halt when they felt they had done everything they wanted to with that band and wanted to try something else. Initially I wanted to write "new" instead of "else" but hey... first of all what's new these days? And secondly they didn't want to come up with something the world had never heard before. They just felt like paying respect to other bands that had an impact on their lives. This time around early '80s US Hardcore and german Punk from the same decade. Boy does this combination work.
Right now they have a new T- Shirt (white on black or the other way around) and a new 7" for sale. Check out the bands blog for some tunes and if you want to order their stuff you should write to thrashhomos@aol.com

YOUTH AVOIDERS - punk at its best - from france

There really are some good Bands out there again. And not only in the US. I hope you all have checked out my previous post about Richie Dagger.

Now I want to let you in on a secret that probably isn't one anymore since the guys already played Pfingstfest in Mannheim and are scheduled to play Hardcore Winter Fest in Tübingen in December. The Band I'm talking about is Youth Avoiders from France. They play good old hardcore punk somewhere inbetween No Hope For The Kids, Idle Hands, The Observers and Dean Dirg. So if you like any or all of these Bands I strongly suggest you to check them out. They are damn good at what they do.

Dan O'Mahony spoken word & No For An Answer new 7"

Who doesn't like No For An Answer? I bet there are not too many hands going up out there right now. Maybe a few who are into Beatdown and/ or Metalcore only but they don't count ;) Chances are if you're  into Hardcore you'll love yourself some NFAA.
I myself just recently got a first pressing of their classic "you laugh e.p." on the equally classic Revelation Records when buying a Lot on ebay consisting of 8 LP's and 30 7"es of which some will be going up for sale here soon. All crucial stuff. Needless to say they are doubles here at the .LIC. headquarters.

Here are a few pictures of my way too small NFAA collection and somehow I always end up with incomplete copies. The 1st press 7" doesn't have the extra sheet with the picture of the "Poison Free" Tattoo and the LP came without the insert. Big bummer.

Printed on the inside-sleeve is the picture that is supposed to come as an extra sheet with the 1st press. So at least I know what the thing looks like I am missing.

Ok, enough with the pictures. Let's get to what you are most curious about.
I read a post on the always delivering X Stuck In The Past X blog about  a spoken word performance by Dan O' somewhere in California. Being from Germany I won't be able to attend for obvious reasons but if there's ever going to be a spoken word tour through europe I'd definitely try my best to make it out to one of the dates. And I dare not to dream about a No For An Answer tour. I know they've been here before but that was before I was in touch with anyone who could have known about it.
Apparently the NEW NFAA 7" will be sold at said event only but unfortunately there was not much info so I searched facebook for the man himself. Found him and sure as hell wrote a message asking if he'd be willing to shed some light on the matter. If I get a reply I'll let you know.

And if by any chance you live in the US and attend the Show I'd really appreciate it if you could grab an extra copy for me. Maybe I can return the favor some day. Thanks.

of course Double Cross has all the info we need. Finally a studio recording of Man Against Man. I HAVE TO HAVE THAT 7"!!!!!!!!!!

Richie Dagger feat. ex-Restless Youth, Hooghwater, Reactionaries members

I know we all loved the Restless Youth Demo and the 7". Rocked the shit out of those 2 releases and then the LP hit to seperate their following. Now I certainly can not understand how anyone can't like that LP but the sad truth is that there were quite a few who didn't. All of you who belong to that group of people can stop reading right away. But those whose taste in music goes back a little further than the early '80s and  are on the same page with me when I say the RY LP as well as the releases by Hooghwater and the 12" by the Reactionaries are among the best Punk records that have ever been released might wanna hit the following link and check out the rough demo recordings from Richie Dagger. It sure is another landmark on a road that is for no obvious reason not so much travelled anymore these days. Keep it coming boys. Can't wait to hear some properly recorded tunes.

Hit & Run 5th anniversary showcase aka Antifascist Ballroom III

Five years are the fine folks of HIT & RUN now working their asses of to promote events for good causes.  Now it's time to celebrate. Starting with a warm-up-show on Friday August 5th at 9pm at the AZ in Köln-Kalk. Bands playing are Finisterre, Fake Empire and Peace Bastard.

wolf X down demo-tape out now!

Yesterday was the release show for WOLF X DOWNs  demo-tape as you might already know. I bet it was a blast. Of course I couldn't go for reasons I already mentioned in earlier posts. So let's not get into that again but look onto brighter things. For everyone who was also not able to attend you can now order the regular version out of 100 for 3€ + postage from New Order. It's beautiful. Listen. Fire away.

Making A Scene - New York Hardcore - Book

Now this is a book I am definitely going to order. And it will probably be featuring some Graffiti as well ;)
Making A Scene was originally published in 1989 so it will be no news for a lot of you folks that it contains pictures taken by Bri Hurley that cover the years from '85 - '88 when she was hangin' with the boys and girls of the New York Hardcore Scene.
Recently a copy of the original Book went for $150 on ebay. But here comes the good news. Gutter Goose Press is going to release a revised edition with more than 200 of her photographs instead of the mere 79 that were included in the original.
You can read more about Bri in this post on the amazing Double Cross Blog. And on this site you can read up on the book itself. Pre-order starts Sept. 1st. Don't sleep on this. I know I won't. Gotta read that foreword by Freddy Madball. And maybe I will even make the boys over at Tee Till Death happy and order the Shirt as well. After all it was their post that turned me onto the whole matter.

The History of American Graffiti

I've never really been into Graffiti. I do like it but not enough to go out there myself or even learn anything about. I can dig a nice piece when I see it in the streets and I certainly enjoy the influence it has on Hardcore. Gotta love that Breakdown logo to name just one example.
Checking up on the various Blogs I follow I came across some info on a recently released book called "Paint it back: The History of American Graffiti". Unfortunately it was only about a scheduled signing in NYC so I had to browse the web all on my own to find out more. And I did. So to save you the gruelling process of googling yourself just hit the picture below to get more info or click here to order it from a retailer in Germany. Of course you could also just use amazon but as we all know there are reasons not to. I'm sure you'll find another source for the book if you're into that kinda stuff and do not live in Germany.

New WOLF X DOWN song + demo release

Did you check out WOLF X DOWN yet? I know I told you to. By now they have 2 songs up on their bandcamp and they are both soooo good. If you're into 90s vegan mosh you'll definitely love them. They are right up there with Birthright, Culture, early Abnegation, early (i.e. good) Morning Again, etc.
And tomorrow they will be playing their demo release show. I really hope my legs will be better by then although it doesn't look like it. Another major bummer having to miss out on that Show. You should really go there.

SHEER fucking TERROR

It's not really news that the almighty Sheer Terror are... well I wanted to write back together but that's not really the case here. Anyways. They are playing Shows again and when I saw them playing Antwerp earlier this year Paul mentioned some new recordings that were about to be made.
Ever since I have been siked to death and about two weeks ago the good folks over at Reaper Records 'finally' put a new Sheer Terror 7" up for pre-order.
It might seem a little late to post about it now but if you follow this blog you will know why I didn't do so earlier but I would be damned if I didn't post about it at all.
I might be taking a wild guess here not having heard any of the new stuff so far but those new songs will probably be better than 90% of the "Hardcore" records that came out since their last release. And you know why? Because it's fucking SHEER TERROR. Go buy that shit now!
