12" Rhino 39

Rhino 39 - s/t LP - 1986 Triple X Records XXX1001

When I first saw this record for sale at Hitsville in Düsseldorf, Germany I wasn't sure if I needed it. Mostly because I already had picked a few other things from the bins but when I got home I couldn't stop thinking about it and kicked myself repeatedly for leaving it behind. Fast forward a few months and I'm back at the same store and what do I find? This Rhino 39 record. I thought it was long gone but no. There it still was. How could this be? Ralf, your customers need a lesson or two.
Or am I all wrong and this is a different copy than the one I saw the first time? Well, I doubt that but who knows... or cares. I'm stoked I was able to add it to my collection after all.

One time pressing on black vinyl only. Now I need that original Dangerhouse 7" even more but too many people have gone batshit crazy over the last two years or so. I hope it's just a fad that will fade again soon

Metallica - master of puppets LP - 1986 Music For Nations MFN 60

One of the great early Metallica albums and I'm glad I finally got a copy for a really good price. Even though I think it's the weakest one. Not counting the 'black album' and everything thereafter of course. Many of you might not agree with me but the first Metallica record I heard was '...and justice for all' so naturally I love that one. Then I got 'ride the lightning'. Killer. To this day it's my favorite. And if I remember it right 'kill em all' comes in third but I might revise that once I finally have my own vinyl copy. It's been a while since I threw out all those dubbed tapes I never listened to anyway so I don't have that album anywhere to listen to. I don't do last.fm, spotify or any other online crap.

What I got is a beautiful UK pressing from year of its original release. There were many pressings made that year in the UK. One on a different label. Picture vinyl. Color vinyl. I'm glad I got good old black on MFN. The same label my 'ride the lightning' is on although that one is a Re-Issue double LP released in 1987 that my parents bought for me a year later. My '...and justice for all' is a 1988 original on Vertigo/ Phonogram and was pressed in the Netherlands.

Sealed Session Ruts

The Ruts - The Peel Sessions 12" - 1986 Strange Fruit SFPS 011

At first I only liked their Hit Babylon's Burning but after I listened to their eponymous The Crack LP a couple of times it grew on me. No I love it front to back so I didn't have to think for a second when I found this still sealed canadian pressing of their Peel Session. It's a cut out but you can hardly see the tiny hole in the front bottom right corner. I thought to myself what are the chances to find this one unopened but only a day or two later I saw another one in a different shop. Maybe I should have picked that one up too so I could open and listen to one. Then again I'd rob someone else of the chance to add a sealed copy to her / his collection. Not sure if many people are as crazy as I am and keep records sealed even though they don't have a copy to play. But who knows. Maybe someone will be as excited about old sealed records as I am. Currently I have 4 sealed records in my collection that I will never open. Including this one. Two of those are the only copies I have.

It's happening today

Now that all the pick up fails are dealt with, on the last day of 7 weeks on the road I'll feature of the Zürich haul the purchase that is 2nd only to the sealed Devo LP.

Slapshot - back on the map - Taang! 12 - 1986

Yellow labels denote the third press. According to discogs it came without any inserts. Unfortunately the Taang! discography does not give any useful info on this album at all like with most of the other releases. Someone needs to tackle that project. Give the nerds what they want.

Despite what it says on discogs my copy has a Taang! A4 Catalogue. From the records advertised on here I would say this was probably repressed in 1990.

This version was the last one missing for this 12". So here is the whole family. Not really a hard job to accomplish yet I'm happy to cross that one off the list.

This is the lyricsheet that came with my blue label first pressing. The second press white label version should have that too according to discogs but my copy doesn't have any inserts at all.

And here we have the one-sided A4 Taang! Catalogue that was included with the first pressing. Too bad I couldn't find any pictures of the one that came with the second press. Maybe that's because discogs is right and there really were no inserts. Would be interesting though to see where the label was at when that one dropped.

I know. I really need to do something about the quality of the pictures I take. This was a rush job though done in what little time I had at home while the tour resided nearby over Christmas.
