Burning thing to Love

Damn you Google Reader. Why don't you realize that an updated post on a blog is as interesting to read as a new one? Due to this fail I am late for the new BURNING LOVE - A Rotten Thing To Say LP on Southern Lord Records. Luckily though I'm not too late.

I wanted to order the regular vinyl along with the shirt + LP package but the ridiculous shipping costs had me take a step back, rethink and in the end order only the package because neither the record nor the shirt will be available seperately. The regular edition I'll have to order from my favorite distro or buy at my go to record store.

And then there was the Australian pressing on Resist Records but it seems today is not my day as I cannot enter their site due to a non-responding server. Bummer. I'll have to keep trying then.

Daymare Records from Japan complete the trifecta with their own pressing. Not being able to find an english version of their site makes ordering difficult though. I guess I'll have to shoot them a message.

Now go hit the links and support some real Punks!!

Oh, I need that release show edition! Can someone hook me up?

UPDATE: I was able to get on the Resist Records site and they only have a CD for sale which made me go back to the Daymare store and it turns out that inbetween all the japanese letters it clearly says CD but an LP is nowhere to be found. Meaning you and me can save a few bucks. But maybe you should check for yourself and let me know if they meanwhile announced a vinyl release.

They're the Meatmen and we suck!

Another early 80s band is re-united and will tour europe in September. Anyone out there who doesn't know that yet? Dates below.

11.09. Köln – Sonic Ballroom (Germany)

12.09. Amsterdam – Winston (Netherlands)

18.09. München – Backstage (Germany)

20.09. Milano – Xm24 (Italy)

21.09. Bologna – Lofi (Italy)

23.09. Wien – Arena (Austria)

25.09. Ulm – Beteigeuze (Germany)

26.09. Karlsruhe – Alte Hackerei (Germany)

Real Hardcore

I never heard of a band called PRISON ABUSE until today and I'm already in love. They are going to release an LP on Painkiller Records and besides the info that Prison Abuse is comprised of Think I Care, Waste Management and Mind Eraser members I couldn't find any more details. So this seems to be the next mysterious band from Boston just like Boston Strangler. Unfortunately I slept on any of the BS releases and am still looking to find them at a normal price (so if you can hook me up I'll be grateful) but I intend to not let this happen again. If you know any of the mentioned bands you will get the right idea of how PA sound. Real Hardcore for real men people! If you need a listen Painkiller's got you covered. Two songs are available for streaming.

Flea Helen Burns Patti Smith

This title might make you go like Whaaaaat? Now he's lost his mind and drifted completely into mindless drivel. But no! That's totally not the case. And it also doesn't matter if you like The Red Hot Chili Peppers. But if you do you will know Flea. Yes, their bassist.

In the early nineties I was a big fan of the band and listened to everything they put out up until the Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magic record. If memory serves me right the follow up to that was One Hot Minute which marked the time of me losing interest. Today I listen to them very scarcely but still think they are an awesome band because of the integrity of each and every current and former member.

Flea's involvement with the Silverlake Conservatory of Music plays right in with that integrity. Unfortunately I cannot check out anymore details about this organisation because they decided to have a flash application on their start page which my device is not able to display. Bummer. But the name alone sounds like it's a good thing.

Ok. So much for the first part of this post's title. The second part is Helen Burns which is the name for Flea's solo ep that I only learned about today because I don't follow the guys tweets which is something I'll be changing very soon. The music on that thing is nothing like that of the RHCP but rather some "soundscapes that are very emotional for" him. He also writes "it is a mostly instrumental, weird and arty record".

If you didn't cringe at this last sentence you might be interested that it's available for download at a price you can choose here. That all proceeds will be donated to the SCM. And that Patti Smith is featured on it. This last piece of detail alone makes me want to have these recordings but as you might know I'm not a fan of downloads. So what to do? Well, Flea wouldn't be Flea if he didn't know how to do things right and boy does he do this right. Although I have to say that $75 seems a little steep for a 12" ep even if it's on 180g vinyl, autographed by Flea and comes with a piece of bass string that the man himself actually played. Who gives a shit about this crap? I guess I do. Sounds like a nice package for a good cause. I think I should get my order in soon. Limited to 900. Can you dig it?

Check out my source and an early interview here.

Double dare ya!!!

If you need an introduction to this band you better go learn your lesson kid. Bikini Kill is one of the most awesome bands of all time and members have returned now to put out new and old music. I don't know if it's unfortunately or luckily not a band reunion. With all the craze lately it's sure been a bit much but maybe this one would make more.... well, actually I think this one would make a lot more sense since not that much if anything has changed since the girls initially set out on their mission. Hardcore still is male dominated and full of a lot of macho bullshit.

Anyways. What is this then? You probably guessed it. The ladies have launched Bikini Kill Records and their first effort is making all the Bikini Kill records available digitally through their bandcamp, iTunes and other channels. You should go check everything out for yourself if you're interested which you shoud be. Even if you already have all their music because who knows what they've got coming and who wouldn't like to have one of these awesome shirts which among others they have for sale as well.

R.I.P. Kitty Wells

Kitty Wells, the often proclaimed "Queen of Country Music" died Monday from complications after a stroke. She was 92.

Wells, born Ellen Muriel Deason, became the first female singer to reach No. 1 in the country music charts with her 1952 song It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels, and she spent much of the next two decades as one of the most well-known names in country.

In 1976, Wells was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, and her other accolades include the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, Governor's Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Recording Industry and induction into the Grammy Hall of Fame. [WSMV]

Asi. Arrogant. Vorbestellt.

Twisted Chords launched the pre-order for this bad-ass slab of repressed plastic. My order is already in and you better act quick to get one of the ltd. edition vinyl. Hand-screened cover and white vinyl out of 100. Only available through the label or band. ABFUKK alter!!

The Robin Hood Tax

I'm not too well versed in these matters but it sounds like a great idea. Dedicate 3 minutes of your precious time to this video and maybe you also want to check out the website.

Only thing I am really sceptical towards is the way that money made from that tax will be spent. They say it's going be be used as follows (it's a site from the UK):

- 50% to fight poverty in the UK

- 25% to fight poverty in developing countries

- 25% to fight climate change at home and abroad

How would they know how the government which I think they are not a part of might spend the extra loot? Maybe it's just a suggestion but to me it looks like they are pretty much convinced of this. Strange. But all the rest seems to be pretty much on spot. Now watch that thing

And here is some more info on the Tax from the US via Dangerous Minds
